Rumdamol panch decries police 'laxity' in assault probe

MARGAO
Rumdamol Panchayat member Vinayak Volvoikar has said it took 20 hours for the Margao police to register an FIR against the accused persons in the brutal assault against him that took place near the Aquem Power House junction three days ago.

Alleging that the men-in-uniform approached him to amicably settle the matter through a compromise, the Panchayat member said the police were forced to finally register the FIR after he brought the matter to the notice of the higher-ups.

He further lamented that although the accused persons launched a murderous assault on him, the police did not invoke the attempt to murder section against the accused. “I fail to understand why it took the Margao police around 20 hours to register an FIR against the accused persons when I have sustained injuries in the assault. The police even offered a compromise with the accused persons, but I rejected the offer,” he said.

He added, “Though the assault took place two days ago, the Margao police have only collected the broken beer bottles on Sunday. That only goes to show that the police were not serious in conducting the investigation.”

Volvoikar said the police are yet to find out the motive behind the assault on him, stating that he had no enmity with the accused involved in the assault.
