Salcete’s Covid death toll has crossed the 70-figure mark as there seemed no respite in the number of Covid cases reported from the taluka.
A look at the statistics revealed that the total number of Covid deaths is pegged at around 73 as per statistics released a day ago, with 16 deaths each reported in Margao and Fatorda in the Margao Municipal area. The remaining deaths are spread in the remaining villages, with six and five deaths reports in the Gogol and Navelim areas respectively.
A glance at the statistics further showed that Salcete has recorded a total of 6,223 cases, of which 4,413 cases were declared as recovered from the coronavirus. The total number of active cases in Salcete is pegged around 1,737 cases.
Majority of the cases are concentrated in Fatorda and Margao, with Fatorda alone accounting for 1,328 total cases, with 990 recovered, 16 deaths and 1,737 active cases. Closely following Fatorda is Margao with around 1,067 total cases, around 714 recovered, 16 deaths and 337 active cases.
Around 14 other villages in Salcete have crossed the three-digit figure mark, with Cuncolim (365) topping the list of total cases, followed by Verna 244 total cases, Davorlim 235, Curtorim 216, etc.
Salcete’s coastal belt was not free from the Covid-19 pandemic, with cases spread along the belt. However, the villages of Benaulim (163) and Colva (157) recorded majority of total cases recorded along the coastal belt.
