Social activist demands Siddhi Naik's case be handed to CBI

PANAJI

Stating that the family of late Siddhi Naik is not satisfied with the Crime Branch's move to close the case, social activist Tara Kerkar demanded that the case be re-opened and handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI).

Speaking to reporters in Panaji on Wednesday, Kerkar informed that there are still unanswered questions relating to the death of the youngster whose semi-nude body was found washed ashore at Calangute.

“Where are her clothes? Why were her hair all stuck? Why was PI Raposo suspended? Why was the viscera not preserved? Why the call details of the doctors who performed the post-mortem not investigated?” Kerkar questioned while also posing why the family members of Siddhi were not called by the Crime Branch police before seeking to close the case.

“From the beginning itself, the police botched up the case as they treated the case as suicide. Further, the viscera was also not preserved,” Kerkar pointed and alleged that there is an attempt to cover up the issue to save someone powerful.

“There is an attempt to save someone powerful who is involved in the murder of the youngster and we demand that the case be handed over to CBI,” Kerkar demanded.

“We will file RTI application with the Crime Branch seeking all details into the probe. After getting the details, then we will write to the Director General of Police and also the Home Minister demanding that the case be handed over to CBI,” she stated.

Siddhi's father Sandeep also blamed the police for botching up the case from the beginning. “The police officials who initially handled the matter are all responsible for botching up the case as they knew who were behind the murder,” he claimed.
