The displaced GMC kiosk owners have demanded that they be handed possession of the stalls before the Ganesh Chaturthi as an advance festival gift.
The kiosk owners made the statement when they had come to meet the North Goa deputy collector cum SDO to finalise the finer details of the allotment process. However, as the deputy collector was not available, the meeting could not take place and the kiosk owners have sought an appointment for tomorrow.
Later, speaking to reporters, a kiosk owner Domnic Pereira informed that they had come to hold talks over the allotment process.
“We want that the vendors be allocated spaces as per their business so that all get equal business,” Pereira stated while adding that their demand is that the stalls be handed over to them before the Ganesh Chaturthi.
“We want that the stalls be allotted to us before Chaturthi, as an advance festival gift,” Pereira added.
Meanwhile, Pereira alleged that the Deen Dayal kiosk owners are resorting to all types of illegalities by extending their structures beyond the kiosks.
“We have already brought it to the notice of the deputy Collector and sought action against them. However, if the Deen Dayal kiosk owners continue to violate the terms and conditions, we would be forced to approach the High Court to initiate action,” Pereira informed.
“Once we are allotted the stalls we will form an association, which will not only tackle such illegalities but also ensure that other vendors who are doing business outside the GMC complex are stopped from doing so,” he added. Kiosk owner Prasad Naik and others were also present.
