Asserting the land belonging to the Sociedade Agricola dos Gauncares de Cuncolim e Veroda is a private land, Cuncolim Municipal Councillor Udesh Desai reminded that the Sociedade has no provision or powers to sell land to anyone.
Referring to the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s statement on legalizing illegal houses on Sociedade land on the lines of illegal houses on government and comunidade land, Udesh said, “Even assuming the houses are legalized by the government, there is no power vested in the Sociadade to sell the land. At the most, the Sociedade can give the land on long lease by mandating the lesson to pay the rent to the Sociedade every year. There is no provision to sell the land”, he added.
