Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will lead the people of the State in paying tributes to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on the occasion of his birth anniversary to be celebrated at Farmagudi, Ponda today.
Chief Secretary, Puneet Kumar Goel; IAS, Ravi Dhawan; IAS Secretary Information and Publicity, Dipak Bandekar, Director of Information and Publicity Dr Ram Bhau Rajaram Mutkule, historian from Hingoli Maharashtra; Pandurang Kunkalienka, president of Freedom fighters Association-Ponda besides other dignitaries will attend the function.
The main function will be held in the precincts of Shree Ganapati temple premises at Farmagudi. The day-long programme will commence by garlanding the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji at Farmagudi followed by Dhol Tasha Patak performance by Jagdamb Dhol Tasha Patak, Goa.
As a part of the celebration various programmes have been planned. These include All Goa Inter Collegiate Quiz competition on “ Life and Times of Chhatrapati Shivaji (1630 to 1680) with stress on Shivaji’s Fort and All Goa Theatrical Entry (Natya Pravesh) Competition for students at Higher Secondary Level on the life and times of Shivaji.
The winners of intercollegiate quiz will be awarded cash prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000 as first, second and third prizes respectively and two consolation prizes of Rs. 1,000 each.
The winners of Natya Pravesh Competition will be awarded a cash prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000 as first, second and third prize respectively.
The highlight of the celebration will be the keynote address by Dr Ram Bhau Rajaram Mutkule, historian from Hingoli Maharashtra who will speak on life and times of Shivaji.
A historical Marathi drama ‘Agryahun Dakkhan’ will be staged by Nateshwar Kala Sanskrutik Mandal from Alorna Pernem at Farmagudi at 7 pm. Historical dramas will also be staged at the taluka level from February 19-28.
