A random survey conducted by Goa University recently has revealed that students are spending around Rs 353 on an average per month for their internet usage.
Goa University, meanwhile has suggested that in order to break the monopoly of internet providers and to regulate internet prices and to resolve network issue, the government should go in for an optical fiber network with the help of the Electricity department.
The survey revealed that girls spent more time on the internet for their study-related work compared to boys. This left the girl students poorer by Rs 362 than the boys who spent around Rs 340 every month.
Due to the surge in Covid pandemic, most of the high schools and higher secondary schools in the State have made a switch from physical classes to online learning from June-July this year.
Knowing the importance of e-learning the Goa University conducted this survey to find out the hurdles in the e-learning process.
The survey also noted that there is a severe connectivity issue in areas like Dharbandora, Canacona, Sanguem, Quepem, Pernem and Bicholim.
However, as per the survey, around 83.20 per cent of students have overcome the hurdles and are now coping up with their online studies.
The survey noted that students preferred WhatsApp as the mode of communication compared to Instagram and Facebook and around 67.50 per cent of students preferred online transactions compared to physical cash.
Students also felt that the government should provide aid or installment facility for students pursuing graduation to procure laptops.
