Taxi operators seek action over assaults

MARGAO

Taxi operators and coach owners on Monday descended at the Margao police station to lodge a complaint against what they called the “illegal stopping” of their taxis from plying along the Salcete coastal belt.

They also disclosed plans to call on the District Collector with a plea to cancel the badges and permits of the tourist taxi operators involved in assaulting taxi operators from Margao going to the hotels along the coastal belt to pick up customers.

They pointed out that the violence let loose against the taxi operators from Margao has not stopped at the coastal belt, saying that taxi drivers have been assaulted by the tourist taxi operators operating from the hotels along the coastal belt.
