Tejpal rape case verdict adjourned again to May 21

The District and Additional Sessions Court on Wednesday adjourned yet again the verdict in the alleged rape case against former Tehelka founder-editor Tarun Tejpal to May 21.

Judge Kshama Joshi attributed the adjournment in the case due to power outage experienced in the State.

Incidentally, this is the third time that the judgement in the case has been postponed.

The Mapusa court was to pronounce the judgement on April 27 but the judge first adjourned the matter on May 12, then to May 19 and now fixed it for May 21.

Special Public Prosecutor, Francisco Tavora was present in the court. The alleged accused Tarun Tejpal was also present along with his immediate family members.

The former Tehelka founder editor, Tarun Tejpal was accused by a female colleague for sexually assaulting her in the elevator of a starred hotel in Goa where the magazine was hosting a conclave in 2013.

Goa Police had taken suo motu cognisance of the incident and lodged an FIR against Tejpal on November 22, 2013.

He was subsequently chargesheeted under sections 376 (rape), 341 (wrongful restraint), 342 (wrongful confinement) 354A (sexual harassment) and 354B (criminal assault), of the Indian Penal Code.

Tejpal was subsequently arrested and sent to custody where he remained nearly for a year before being released on bail.

Ration distribution extended to May 27

PANAJIGoa government has decided to extend the distribution cycle of food grains up to May 27 instead of May 21 in view of the breakdown of network and power outage due to cyclone Tauktae. Order to this effect was issued by the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs on Wednesday.
