The gram sabha of Betalbatim Village Panchayat saw members demanding tenant verification of the migrant staying in the village.
The meeting chaired by Sarpanch Anthony Fernandes also saw the issues relating to construction of a market and hospital discussed by the members. The issue of release of sewage water in the water bodies by the hotels came up for discussion wherein it was demanded that the Sarpanch inspect the STPs of the hotels with technical persons to find out whether they are functioning as per the laid down norms.
The Sarpanch told the media after the meeting that the Panchayat is planning to issue identity cards to the migrants staying in the village as a precautionary measure
The Sarpanch pointed out that the tenant verification drive conducted by the Panchayat body has filled up around 3000 forms of the migrants staying in the village.
Members, however, pointed out during discussions on the migrants, that large number of outsiders who are staying in the village in rented premises have not been verified till date. The members pointed out that they are not against the migrants per se, but hastened to add that all the tenants and migrants staying in the village need to be brought under the scanner of the tenant verification exercise.
When the issue of construction of market came up for discussion, the Sarpanch said the land could not be zeroed because of some issues. He said a panchayat delegation would call on the land owner to facilitate handing over the land in question to the panchayat to build the market.
As far as the hospital is concerned, the Sarpanch said the members were of the view that Betalbatim should have a bedded hospital to provide medical facilities for the benefit of the elders in particular and the general public.
