A crew on board a fishing trawler has been booked on charges of attempting to murder a fellow worker on board the trawler while it was in the deep sea.
According to the Harbour Coastal Security Police, the incident occurred at about 10.15 pm on November 22, when the fishing trawler ‘Vasco King’ with 25 crew members on board, was about 22 nautical miles from the Kharewaddo Jetty.
It is alleged that Dinesh Swansi (22), hailing from Jaranga-Jharkhand, assaulted a fellow crew member Sudhir Dungdung, of Sundargarh-Odisha, with a metal object while the victim was asleep.
The brutal attack left Sudhir with head injuries, after which Dinesh allegedly attempted to drag and throw him overboard. However, the other crew members intervened just in time.
Acting on a complaint filed by Sayed Abbasaib Thota of Chicalim, Harbour Coastal Security Police registered an offence under Section 109 of the BNSS and PSI Pritesh Govekar is carrying out further investigation.
