After receiving cross complaints, Mapusa Police registered a case of rioting against two groups over a property dispute at Quitla, Aldona on Saturday.
Two people who were injured in the fracas have been admitted in the Goa Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
According to police, a scuffle broke out between the owner of the property, Michael Pereira and his neighbour D Raut who staked claim over the property and objected to the cleaning of the property undertaken by Pereira.
Saudagar Vernekar who is one of the complainants informed that his co-workers Nilesh Vernekar, Deepak Kumar and others were beaten by Raut and family.
A case has been registered against eight persons of Raut family for allegedly snatching vernekar’s mobile phone and gold chain causing a loss of Rs 1.50 lakh.
Based on a cross complaint lodged by Raut, police registered a case against Michael Pereira, Nilesh Vernekar and others for allegedly beating up some of the Raut family members.
Police informed that Devesh Raut and Vaibhav Raut received serious injuries and were admitted at the GMC for treatment.
An offence has been registered under sections 143, 147, 148, 447, 504, 324, 427, 506 (2) and 149 of the IPC.
Police are investigating further.
