In a crackdown on narcotics trade, Mapusa police apprehended a West Bengal native suspected of possessing illegal substances believed to be ganja.
The arrest took place near the IDC canteen at IDC Karaswada in Mapusa.
In another raid, Anjuna Police nabbed one Dashrath Rama Nayak (30, resident of Bandurya Karnataka) near Splashdown Water Park on Saturday evening.
During the search, 3.23 grams of MDMA was found in his possession. The drug is worth Rs 82,000.
Subsequently, Sub-Inspector Sanket Pokhre registered a case against the suspect under the Narcotics Control Act and arrested him.
Acting upon prior intelligence, Mapusa police personnel conducted a targeted raid at IDC, Karaswada, resulting in the apprehension of one Faruk Hossien Mallick (24), resident of Dattawadi, Mapusa and a native of West Bengal. Mallick was allegedly found in possession of narcotics during the raid.
According to police sources, the examination of the accused led to the discovery of substances suspected to be ganja, weighing approximately 510 grams and valued at Rs 50,000.
Following the seizure, Mapusa police conducted a panchanama and formally confiscated the drugs.
Police have registered an offense against the accused under Section 20 (b)(ii)(A) of the NDPS Act, and Mallick has been placed under arrest.
The investigation into the matter is ongoing, with Mapusa police working diligently to gather further information and evidence related to the case.
