Dempos into social service for years, polls another opportunity: Shrinivas

MARGAO
Saying that the Dempo family has been into social service in the State over the years, Shrinivas Dempo on Sunday said that the ensuing election will give the family another opportunity to serve the people of Goa.

Baba Dempo made his presence felt at the AWES programme held to felicitate veteran sports promoters at the BPS club on Sunday.

He told The Goan on the sidelines of the programme that election is the symbol of a democracy, and that people’s power prevails in a democracy. “Whoever wins the election with the support of the people, it is their responsibility to serve the people and the State,” he said, when asked for his comments that his wife Pallavi is contesting the South Goa Lok Sabha election on the BJP banner.

He added: “A good candidate should get elected in an election. As far as I am concerned, since the Dempo family has been doing social service over the years, the coming election is just another opportunity to serve the people of Goa.”

Baba Dempo made a brief presence at the programme and was seen exchanging pleasantries with a host of personalities, including trade union leader Raju Mangueshkar, Fr Eremito Coutinho and others.

Given that wife Pallavi is contesting the May 7 Lok Sabha election on the BJP banner, Baba Dempo has been on the move in Salcete and outside, tapping the football connections in support of wife.

In fact, he along with Margao MLA Digambar Kamat had an interaction with former Minister, goalkeeper Avertano Furtado and sportsmen over a week ago, in a bid to tap the football connections in favour of the BJP candidate.
