Residents of Vasco on Friday hit out at Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) after accusing the council of refusing to accept documents related to house tax and other documents in the first half of the day.
MMC Chief officer Arvind Bugde, however, refuted the allegations saying that counters and the inward section were open to people throughout the day.
Speaking to reporters, Shekar Vasta said the MMC gates were closed for public during the day time.
"People leave from home in the morning but the gates are closed for people and MMC workers say they are busy with house tax assessment work and tell people to come in the second half.”
“This house tax assessment work will go on for months and what are people supposed to do till then? Most people don't come to MMC in the second half and hence, we request the MMC chief officer to carry out this assessment work in the second half and make the staff available to people in the morning," said Vasta.
MMC Chief Officer Arvind Bugde refuted the allegations and said counters and inward section were open for the public throughout the day.
"Our staff in the general section are available. Our staff are indeed allotted for house tax assessment work and they have been asked to give a minimum of two hours for this work.”
“We want these specific staff to carry out uninterrupted work and hence, we have stopped people from meeting them for two hours in the morning.”
“These are, however, specific workers who are around 12 in number but the supervisors, engineers, tax officers are available to people all the time. Cash counters and inward section are open all the time for the public," said Bugde.
