PANAJI
Goa Trinamool Congres (TMC) has demanded that the government should intervene in the Supreme Court as far as the Old Goa structure case is concerned and ensure that it is demolished.
Speaking to reporters in Panaji on Saturday, Samil Volvoikar informed that their Rajya Sabha MP Luizinho raised the issue of the Old Goa structure and got a reply from the Central government that the structure has come up within the protected area of St Cajetan Church is illegal.
Incidentally, in the reply submitted by the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Development of North Eastern Region G Kishan Reddy has stated that the building was constructed within the protected area of St Cajetan Church in violation of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act.
“On one side, the Centre admits that the structure has come up in violations of ASI norms but on the other, the State government replies in the Assembly that the issue is sub-judice. But in light of the reply from the Centre, the TMC is demanding that immediate action has to be taken in the matter to demolish the same. The ADP should be directed to take an immediate decision,” Volvoikar said.
