Ramrao Wagh has alleged use of sub-standard material and shoddy work of the khazan protective bundh at Azossim which breached recently and ingressing waters are threatening to destroy fields with saline ingression and endangering some houses.
On a site visit, Wagh said he discovered chunks of tarred road surfaces, possibly the debris of the discarded Atal Setu road surface, in the breached bundh's material.
"Which expert in the government departments involved advises the use of such debris and material? Bundhs are traditionally built and repaired with silt (chickal) from the khazans itself," Wagh said.
The Aam Admi Party (AAP) leader said there are conspiracy theories doing the rounds that the bundh breached due to sabotage which he claimed seem untrue.
"This doesn't look like sabotage. It is poor material and poor work when it was repaired or built," the AAP leader who had unsuccessfully contested the St Andre seat at the 2022 assembly elections said.
Earlier last week, Revolutionary Goans Party's (RGP) St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar had blaimed the gushing waters due to the lack of outer bundhs for the breach and demanded that the government make funds available for the tenants association to build and fortify the outer bundhs.
