A waste collection centre which has been installed along the Corlim highway road, near a chemical manufacturing unit, was set afire on Thursday morning. Activist Mariano Ferrao who noticed the fire called up the fire emergency services, after which a fire tender from Old Goa fire station arrived and doused off the fire.Speaking to The Goan, Ferrao informed that some unknown persons were seen by eyewitnesses setting the waste on fire. “When I saw the collection centre on fire, I immediately called up the fire services,” he added. When contacted, Corlim Sarpanch Freeda Po informed that the collection centre is used to store waste collected from the highway.
