CANACONA
All eyes will be on the gram sabha convened in Loliem-Polem on Sunday, with locals seeking an inclusion in the agenda to discuss the Film City proposed in the village.
Incidentally, the panchayat had not included the issue of the Film City in the agenda, which only made mention of reading and confirming minutes of previous meeting, approval of the expenditure, discussion on progress of Biodiversity, resolutions/letter/subjections, and discussion of development works within the panchayat.
A resident, Dattaprasad Prabhugaonkar, wrote to the sarpanch and secretary to include a point for discussion ‘The proposal to build a Film City at Loliem Village’ in the agenda for Gram Sabha slated for Sunday at 10 am.
In his letter, Prabugaonkar said the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) has proposed to build a Film City at Loliem village and the issue needs to be discussed in the Gram Sabha.
Claiming this would have tremendous impact on residents of Loliem, Prabugaonkar said it is most necessary that the Gram Sabha of Loliem-Polem discuss this issue at the earliest and sought the inclusion of ‘Proposal to build Film City at Loliem village’, in the agenda.
In another letter, a resident Prashant S Pagi, also sought the inclusion of the Film City as an issue to be included in the Agenda at the Gram Sabha on Sunday.
Pagi claimed that the Communidade of Loliem has adopted resolution to grant lands on the plateau for non-traditional uses in gross violation of resolution adopted by Gram Sabha of Loliem-Polem on November 13, 2016.
He added that the ESG has proposed a large project without informing or consulting the Loliem-Polem panchayat.
Pagi said a discussion on the Film City at the Gram Sabha is necessary to take proactive steps to ensure that the panchayat receives all information regarding any proposal within the panchayat area and that, the panchayat’s powers, functions and resolutions are not violated by other authorities.
According to sources, residents are wary that the panchayat, widely believed to be in favour to development activities on Bhagwati Plateau, may try to facilitate concretisation of the village.
Sources have said there are also efforts to seek more land from the Comunidade of Loliem to set up a food processing unit at Madditolop.
