Labelling the Zilla Panchayat election as a semi-final, Ports Minister Michael Lobo said BJP candidates will emerge victorious wherever the MLAs and the party have performed.
“This election result will reflect the performance of the political party. The party candidates will win wherever the MLAs that have done good work. On the performance of the MLAs, the candidates will win,” Lobo said.
He said the BJP had entrusted three constituencies of Socorro, Reis Magos and Calangute to him and that he was confident all the three BJP candidates in the constituencies would win.
“I feel this Zilla Panchayat election is a semi-final. Congress and Aam Aadmi Party have also fielded several candidates in the polls. This election will lead the road to the assembly polls,” he said.
“A lot of people are coming out to vote. At some places, people will come out in anger and some places due to work done by the MLA. There are a lot of issues in Goa and people will vote on those lines,” he added.
Incidentally, Lobo had earlier told The Goan that ZP polls would not be the semi-final as it was fought on localised issues.
Congress General Secretary Agnelo Fernandes said the mood of the people in Calangute was against the BJP.
“The anti-BJP tempo which was there earlier died down. People who were supposed to come out and vote, did not. It may affect us in certain places. But we are confident in Calangute,” Fernandes said.
