MARGAO
The Goa Forward Party has strongly condemned the State Government for failing to release the salaries of Goa Samagra Shiksha contract teachers engaged as Physical Education, Art Education and Work Education instructors.
Party general secretary Durgadas Kamat said these teachers have reportedly not received their salaries since April 2026, pushing hundreds of families into severe financial hardship despite their continued service in government schools.
Kamat also highlighted that, despite the Government Order dated 23 October 2024 providing for a 5% annual increment to these contractual teachers, the benefit has still not been implemented even after repeated representations. He said the government's continued inaction reflects complete indifference towards teachers who play a vital role in shaping the future of Goa's children.
Demanding immediate intervention by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, Kamat urged the Government to release all pending salaries without further delay, implement the notified 5% annual increment along with arrears, and establish a system to ensure the timely monthly payment of salaries so that teachers are not forced to repeatedly agitate for their legitimate dues.
Kamat said the Goa Forward Party has consistently stood with Samagra Shiksha teachers on this issue. Party President Vijai Sardesai had earlier met delegations of the affected teachers and repeatedly raised their concerns over delayed salaries, the implementation of the notified 5% annual increment, and the need to improve the service conditions of long-serving contractual teachers. The party reiterated that teachers entrusted with educating Goa's children deserve dignity, financial security and the timely payment of their rightful dues.
"The government cannot expect teachers to discharge their responsibilities with dedication while denying them their legitimate salaries. Teachers deserve respect, not financial hardship," Kamat said.
