Elephant tusks worth over Rs 10 lakhs seized

Calangute police seized 7 kg of ivory elephant tusks earlyon Saturday morning and arrested three persons from Karwar for allegedsmuggling.

Acting on a tipoff, in a mid-night raid, a team from theCalangute police department intercepted the car with the tusks at Saligaojunction. The seized tusks are worth Rs 10.50 lakh, police said.

Goa police have been put on high alert following ananonymous call received by the Director General of Police about a bomb blast.Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told reporters on Fridayafternoon that the caller told DGP Kishan Kumar that there was an explosionnear a five-star hotel, but the information turned out to be wrong."He (DGP) was told (by the caller) that the explosionhad already happened," said Parrikar.Parrikar, who also holds the home portfolio himself,cancelled a…
