The state cabinet on Wednesday approved the water sports policy,making it mandatory for all water sports operators to operate from specificareas.
The Department of Tourism in coordination with the Captainof Ports will identify areas where water sports activities can take place.
The policy also binds operators to operate from dedicatedand full-fledged kiosks to be installed by the department where computerizedtickets will be issued to the public.
The operators will have to operate under a queue system sothat all operators get a fair amount of business by rotation.
Addressing newsmen after the cabinet meet, Chief Minister, ManoharParrikar said that the state government has decided to remove the CCTV clausefrom the shack policy.
He said that the shack policy has been approved with minorchanges in terms of allotment of shacks, particularly at Calangute beach.
“I have also ordered GTDC to install CCTV cameras in a shackon a trial basis and to note all practical difficulties and cost implicationsinvolved, so that a final decision on the CCTV cameras can be taken later,”Parrikar said.
Parrikar also stated that the state government has decidedto take back land at Tivim earmarked for a cricket stadium from the Goa CricketAssociation. The total area of the land is 1,30,328 square meters.
“There was strong opposition from the locals against thestadium. There were also issues related to the environment,” the chief ministersaid.
“The traffic scene in the area was also not studied,” headded.
