The State government is ready to resume legal mining withinfive to six weeks, once the Supreme Court vacates stay on the mining ban, ChiefMinister, Manohar Parrikar said.
Parrikar was replaying during the Question Hour in theAssembly on Thursday.
He said that since October not a single hearing has takenplace in the Supreme Court.
The State government’s endeavour was to verify existingmines on case to case bases and ensure legal mining in the State.
But the Union Minister for Environment Jayanti Natrajanpoured water on our plans when she scrapped all Environment Clearance to themines issued by her ministry.
He said his government was in the process of streamliningthe mess created by the mining department in the erstwhile government.
“After coming to power my government was working in the samedirection, but the Union Environment Minister’s decision and the petition ofClaude Alvares has led to total closure of mining in the State,” Parrikar said.
