“Dr Mesquita’s involvement is clearly indicated in thereport which is accepted by the government. Pendse commission report revealshow Dr Mesquita had misused his position and authority by flouting the rules to enable financial benefit for the Goa Cricket Associationto the detriment of the State exchequer,” said Advocate Aires Rodrigues, socialactivist.
He further said, “I will take it to the logical end. As perthe report Dr Mesquita is guilty and we shall take all possible steps so thathe is punished”.
It may be recalled the Pendse Commission of Inquiry wasappointed by a notification dated October 16, 2001. After a two year’s probethe Commission submitted its report on November 17, 2003. The report wasaccepted by the then BJP government in 2003, which after being tossed out bythe Congress regime was once again accepted by the current BJP coalition.
“When report clearly speaks about his involvement why is thegovernment not taking any action. He should either be dropped or he shouldresign as the NRI commissioner,” said Sudip Tamhankar, social activist and nowa Congress member.
“If Parrikar on the basis of the report can say Narvekar iscorrupt and help Vinod Phadke to form a new committee, then why is he nottaking any action against Dr Mesquita? If he does not take any action, I shallfile an FIR,” Tamhankar added.
