For the first time Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar todaysaid that he will hand over all the PWD scams during the Congress government’stenure and scams in mining to the Lokyukta.
“I will immediately refer the employment scams in alldepartments and ministries, besides all PWD scams under the ministry headed byChurchill Alemao to the Lokyukta,” Parrikar said.
He also said mining scams will also be given priority, tounveil the real culprits in the controversy and prove that the CEC and the ShahCommission were wrong while pegging the overall losses suffered by the state.
Speaking to The Goan at the sidelines of a culturalprogramme, at Ravindra Bhavan, in Margao, the chief minister pointed out thatcertain bogus NGOs and individuals who function as extortionists from RTIreplies were misleading people on the new amendments of The Goa Lokayukta Bill.
“People like Khashinath Shetye, Aires Rodrigues and othersare misusing RTIs and PILs and make false complaints to block development,”Parrikar said.
The Chief Minister said that public needs to respect theLokayukta, which works in tandem with the police and other administrativedepartments and should be free of frivolous complaints.
“People think theLokayukta is an investigative body only to investigate MLAs and former MLAs.All panchayats, municipalities, government servants and co-operations will alsocome under the purview of the Lokayukta, he added.
Parrikar pointed out that he was ready to open a dialoguewith the NGOs to lower the amount on fines but refused to comment whether theGovernor will give assent to the new amendments.
