Lineage
He was born on January 8 to his late father Kim Jong-Il and his second mistress Ko Young Hee. He is the second of three children. He has an elder brother called Kim Jong-chul and a younger sister called Kim Yo-jong.
Date of birth?
Kim Jong Un is the world’s youngest head of state - he's 31, 32 or 33 depending on which date of birth is to be believed. His real date of birth is a mystery. There are still doubts over whether he was born in 1982, 83 or 84.
Life stories
The only known information on his early life comes from defectors and those who have claimed to see him abroad, such as his education in Switzerland. According to reports, he attended a private English-language International school near Bern, Switzerland. For many years, only one confirmed picture of Kim was known outside of the DPRK “ which was reportedly taken when he was 11, in the mid-1990s.
Power hungry
Despite all the strange, off-beat and tragic news consistently streaming out of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), it appears that the number one priority of Supreme Leader Kim Jong-Un is the maintenance of his power at all costs. In addition to killing a deputy of defense with mortars and unleashing the hounds on his uncle “ not to mention nuclear proliferation “ the Supreme Leader goes as far as completely erasing his enemies from public records by airbrushing pictures of official photos. All of the actions that the Supreme Leader undertakes, whether they’re violent or bizarre, are carefully calculated efforts to maintain the status quo for the third generation of charismatic dictatorship within the DPRK.
Forced grieving
When his father passed away, he made sure that his death was grieved wholeheartedly by North Koreans. Everyone cried hysterically. And those who didn’t know how to shed crocodile tears, were taught to do so by spokesmodels. Also, those who didn’t go to the mourning events were reportedly being sentenced to labour camps for six months. This wasn’t the first time it happened, though. At the demise of his grandfather Kim Il Sung, his father Kim Jong-il made sure that the country grieved massively. He put his deputy defence minister Kim Chol behind the bars for “insufficient grieving” for his father’s demise.
Love for basketball
Kim Jong-un is an ardent basketball fan and used to play the game at school. he was a great fan of Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Kim Jong-un has hosted former NBA player Dennis Rodman many times.
Sexiest man alive! (sic!)
In 2012, news satire website The Onion named Kim Jong-un as Sexiest Man Alive for the year.
Haircut rules
Kim Jong-un’s hair-cut is very popular in the country and is known as ‘ambition’ cut. Recently, BBC quoted Radio Free Asia reports saying that male students are now asked to get the haircut similar to that of Jong-un. he citizens in the country have to choose among state-sanctioned haircuts. Married women have more options of hairdos than single women. Men are not allowed to grow their hair more than two inches while older men can have hair up to 3 inches long.
Military acumen
Despite no formal military training, Kim Jong-un is head of one of the largest armies in the world. According to the US State Department, DPRK has an estimated active duty military force of up to 1.2 million personnel.
Hunger and health
He reportedly imports vast quantities of emmental, or Swiss cheese, in order to combat his cravings. Kim reportedly suffers from health problems, including diabetes. In 2015, South Korea reported he weighs 130kg.
