Road accidents across Goa are increasing day by day and has been termed with different labels like ‘Bloody Feb’ or ‘Accident Capital Of India’. Subsequently, the New Year 2024 too started with a major jolt of accidental deaths, and in no way it seems to be the end of the story. Almost everyday the local dailies carry news of major fatal accidents--victim crushed under the wheels, brakes failure or self accident.
Needless to say, Goan roads are becoming dangerous to drive on. One might be quite disciplined on the road, but unaware about who’s in a frenzy mood on the other side. The State government should initiate traffic-related syallabus, in the schools wherein the students gets well absorbed with traffic rules, at a very early age. Awareness should be created through print and visual media outlets for the benefit of the local populace. Those who disobey the law should be penalized strictly.
