This news item of ‘Goa’ whiskey bottles being snuggled into Gujarat, which is a dry state, should make the authorities sit up and think. Also all other states where prohibition is in place. What are they trying to achieve by enforcing the prohibition policy?
Gujarat for instance, which is a dry state, according to the news report, ‘Goa’ whiskey made a splash during elections in that state. So, inspite of prohibition, alcohol was still available. Let’s get practical, people in Gujarat and other dry states love alcohol, many of them drink for pleasure, for relaxing, whatever.
It’s time the authorities review their prohibition policy and lift the ban. The government can also earn some revenue and the people, their pleasure. Indeed, the spirit is willing but the authorities seem to be weak.
