The BJP-led government finally had its way by bringing in an Ordinance to elect municipal chairpersons by show of hands.
The BJP had to do this after it suffered a humiliating defeat after its candidate lost the Margao municipal chairman’s election last month.
Almost every day, one can hear that the government is changing rules and regulations according to its whims and fancies.
Indeed, it would be a fantastic move if the government now has the Assembly on similar lines. People should be allowed to ‘show hands’
and reject unwanted candidates. In this way, corrupt politicians will be taught a lesson.
If this law was in force today, the newly defected Congress MLAs would definitely bite the dust.
In a way, this new Ordinance will also put an end to all the jumping jacks who are ready to swing any side for the greed of power and money.
You can fool some of the people some of the time or some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all of the time.
