Addressing the epidemic of reckless driving on roads

Our roads lack the capacity to handle vehicular loads, especially during peak hours, resulting in insufficiency and congestion. The reckless driving behaviour exhibited by both two-wheelers and four-wheelers is a clear indication of potential accidents waiting to happen. These daring stunts may seem thrilling, but they endanger lives. Speeding is particularly dangerous and often leads to disastrous outcomes. People rush to reach their destinations, disregarding safety measures and falling victim to tragic mishaps.

Speeding drivers, especially two-wheelers, are unable to control their vehicles at critical moments, risking their lives and those of others. Rent-a-car/bike businesses are witnessing increasing fatalities, as many drivers, unfamiliar with local roads and terrain, are involved in self-inflicted or multiple accidents.

While speed governors may help control speeding, they cannot prevent reckless driving behaviour. It is essential for parents and teachers to instil discipline and road ethics in children from a young age. Additionally, road engineering requires significant overhaul, including pothole maintenance and the elimination of unnecessary intersections to reduce traffic congestion and promote road safety.
