The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), New Delhi has now reportedly done a volte-face over the 'Revocation Certificate' for OCI registration by issuing a corrigendum dated April 30, 2024 stating that the 'Revocation Certificate' as alternative document in lieu of 'Surrender Certificate' is still under consideration of the Ministry of Home Ministry (MHA). The Ministry of External Affairs had earlier issued a circular dated April 4 stating that the MEA had decided to accept revocation certificates instead of surrender certificates. And our State government was even seen celebrating and calling this as another great achievement of the Modi government. Now, the question that needs to be asked to the State government is why it had not disclosed anything about this particular circular (despite the same coming out on April 30, 2024) before the LS elections in Goa and why it is doing now? I think that CM Pramod Sawant needs to do a lot of answering because he was the one who was seen going around and fooling everyone, especially voters of South Goa by claiming that the OCI registration issue was finally solved by the Modi government.
