Constructions: Biodiversity board should have a say

Goa has been witnessing mass-scale, rapid land conversion of no development zones, destruction of hills, fields and water bodies for concrete projects. The Regional Plan which was delayed and then subsequently notified gave ample opportunity to land sharks for illegal conversions in collusion with the TCP department and other authorities concerned. If things go on at this pace Goa is certainly headed to doom and the future generation, which is a silent spectator, will be the sufferer. The TCP should be held responsible for the destruction of Goa. At this stage, it will be in the fitness of things for the new government and the TCP department to include the Goa State Biodiversity Board as one of the signatories to all the construction files. If the Health Department can be included, why not include the biodiversity board which has a very important role to play. Will CM Pramod Sawant and his cabinet colleagues act now?

The much-delayed swearing-in ceremony of Pramod Sawant as CM and his cabinet doesn’t raise much hope.
