Goans in UK alone remit Rs 12 bn every year

The contribution through remittances by those working in UK alone, seems to be more than the entire contribution of those working in Goa alone. Assuming that 2 lakh Goans with Portuguese passports remit at least Rs 5,000 per month and thus Rs 60,000 per annum, in a year alone the total remittances are at least Rs 12 billion. Alternatively, if we assume that 5 lakh in Goa are employed it would be difficult for them to save Rs 12 billion per year considering that only those who have government jobs are paid well and the others have to spend their entire salary to make ends meet. In UK, the minimum wages is 11.5 pounds per hour thus every day they earn for a seven hour period Rs 8,050 per day which calculates to over Rs 2 lakh per month for 25 working days. In fact many in the UK may be remitting more than Rs 5.000 per month. The banks are receiving a huge amount of money from the Portuguese passport holders in the UK. It would be in the fitness of things if they are given some special privileges for their contribution towards the economy of Goa.
