Hiking price of ‘pao’ was right decision

It was the right decision of the All Goa Bakers and Confectioners Association to hike the price of their bakery products from Rs 4 to Rs 5 by October 2, whereby our Goan pao, undho, poie ani kakon will increase by Re 1. Just imagine how much a gas cylinder and petrol costs in recent months and we should always keep it in our mind that the bakers are feeling the pain as cost of the wood, etc has risen. Today there are only few Goan brothers and sisters preserving our traditional bakery business: the reason is many of our elders and their children are migrating to UK, USA and other European countries.

Our bakery business is now run by the outsiders who run it on rent from our Goan families. Hats off to our original ‘poders’ who are till today protecting our traditional occupation.  Request our state government to help and support our traditional Goan bakers. Undho plays an important role in our lives because it feeds not only the rich but also the poor and some of our Goan festivals are incomplete without pao and tasty sorpotel.
