The government officially gives a two-day public holiday for all its employees working in different govt departments on account of Ganesh Chaturthi festival in Goa every year. Unfortunately, most of the govt employees are always seen bunking work and staying for more than 5 days or so under some pretext or the other every year during the said festival period resulting in total breakdown in the functioning of most govt departments of Goa. Our government is always heard giving big lectures about the importance of work, especially on Gandhi Jayanthi Day every year but does not take action against its own govt employees who are refusing to work during certain festivals.
I think that the government should compulsorily decide to recruit govt employees from all communities (i.e. Catholics, Muslims, etc) without playing dirty communal politics to keep all its government departments fully operational during such major festivals. If not, the government should seriously decide to shut all the government departments at least for one week during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival period every year instead of making a fool of the general public.
