Presidential polls and battle of ideologies

Now that nominations are filed by both the ruling party and opposition candidates for the ensuing Presidential election, the battle lines are drawn  for the race to Raisina Hills.  The little known Draupadi Murmu is pitted against a political heavyweight Yeshwant Sinha who is the face of the masses having resigned from the saffron party on ideological differences. He also compared the present BJP as confrontationist with that of the Vajpayee-era BJP where consensus was the mantra.

It is a foregone conclusion that the BJP nominee will emerge victorious if past records  of such contests are any indication to go by.  Ironically the country does not have a tall statesman for the top constitutional post unlike the past stalwarts of the likes  of  Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, Zakir Husain, A P Abdul Kalam to name a few. With his repertoire of political experience and demeanor, Yeshwant Sinha  appears to be the right person for the coveted post unlike the little known Murmu who has been hand picked to act as a rubber stamp of the ruling dispensation.
