The recently viral photos of muddy potable water in Agonda are shameful. Water is a basic necessity for the common man.
Potable water must be free from suspended solids when tested in a lab.
The water that was supplied to the villagers in Agonda showed enough mud as to be visible with the naked eye! This is criminal.
The PWD engineers claim that the muddy water was a ‘wash-out’ that accidentally got supplied.
In that case the PWD must immediately implement HAZOP -- hazard and operability analysis for all. It would also be prudent if the courts instantly take suo moto cognizance of the report.
Simple candle filters used in Margao show high amounts of brown sediment. This is way out of potable water as defined by WHO.
