Save, don't hug the cow on Valentine's Day

A few days back there  was a newspaper report stating that around 2 dozen cows were run over by a train in a district of Uttar Pradesh, after being allegedly pushed on to the tracks by angry farmers, who complained of destruction of their crops by the rampaging cows. Similar incidents over the past 2 months were also said to have occurred , involving the death of several cows. Ironically, such incidents  come in the wake of the call given by the Country's Animal Welfare Board to 'Hug the cow' on Valentine Day (Feb 14). It is time we stop making such ludicrous statements, and instead direct our efforts, energies and love  to save these hapless creatures , especially the stray ones who roam the streets of every state, ruminating over garbage bins and ingesting deadly plastic.

Exposing a massive hill cutting activity in the village, the locals of Wadi Talaulim and Borim on Sunday prompted the Flying Squad from South Goa Collectorate, Ponda police and bomb disposal squad team to conduct a joint raid and seized around 672 gelatin sticks, 30 kg of ammonia urea powder and wires.
