Political parties have exhausted the emotional appeal to caste and religious sentiments. It is no more productive propaganda , as voters have seen through the smoke screen of selfish interest to remain in the saddle and divide voters.
In UP there is a hype of preferring women candidates. When the tickets are announced the truth will be out. In UP the Congress has not much of hope whether it is candidate of any sex. Let us see if same yardstick applies to Goa scene. TMC too is hogging the headlines about being the only party to promote highest women candidates. Goans will be watching here. BJP has allotted seats to women in local bodies and who have been successful, but will not consider beyond. All the parties do the next best thing of announcing schemes for women as a bait to attract them. Women constitute almost half the population and it is found that they are more sure voters independent of men. The women voters can definitely tilt the scales of winning candidates and hence the best reason to appease them. BJP representation in the Assembly is dismal with 12 ministers and equal number of heads of corporation.
