It is indeed a proud moment for Goa as a Goan film ‘Wagro’ (Place of Sacrifice) has been officially accepted in the short film category at the prestigious Festival de Cannes, 2022. The 75th annual Cannes Film Festival 2022 begins on May 17 and ends on May 28 at Palais des Festivals in France. Goa has played host to the International Film Festival of India since 2004, when it was permanently moved to the State. IFFI is Asia’s oldest film festival. In the last decade or so, there has been a surge of films produced in Goa. One of the prime reasons for this is the IFFI. Several Goan films have made it to the Indian Panorama section at the IFFI. Some of the best Goan films include Paltadcho Munis, O Maria, Nachom-ia-Kumpasar, K Sera Sera among others. It is noteworthy here that Goa makes films in two regional languages, Konkani and Marathi. Hopefully, the short film ‘Wagro’ will impress the jury at the Cannes Film Festival 2022 and the Goan film will bring laurels to the state by winning awards at this prestigious film festival.
