The Calangute Village Panchayat deserves commendation for its prompt action in addressing the waterlogging issue reported by the undersigned and 16 farmers on June 26, 2024, as noted in Inward no. 1723. The issue was resolved by removing debris dumped on the public hill road of Gauravaddo, which had caused hardship to commuters and farmers.
However, the widening of the existing hill road from Survey No. 90/2P has further compounded the waterlogging issue due to the lack of a rainwater or storm drain along the extended road. Rainwater from Survey No. 47/0 channels into the stream downhill to Survey No. 90/2P, ultimately feeding the “Kankonacho Band,” which benefits farmers by ensuring a reliable water supply for cultivating cash crops from January to March.
The Calangute Village Panchayat should have constructed a stormwater drain from the beginning of the road in the East (Survey No. 90/2P) to connect with the rainwater stream in the West-North direction from Survey No. 92/10 of Calangute. This would address the ongoing flooding issue on the public hill road at Gauravaddo East, reducing hardship for commuters and farmers.
