The recent accident on Siolim Marna road MDR-6 wherein a senior citizen man met with a serious accident due to the negligence of the contractor who is laying the HT underground cable for Siolim. It is a known fact that it is a race against time to finish the work before the monsoon starts but the contractor cannot do short cuts by avoiding putting the safety gadgets on the road to keep the road users informed about the danger and work is in progress. The contractor has hurriedly fitted a ribbon at the site which shows how much he cares for the safety of the public. There are many accidents where the work has been carried out and the loose sand is causing the two wheeler riders to skid and fall. I brought this to the notice of the workman , he assured me that it would be done but so far nothing has been done. This contractor should be booked for negligence and made to pay the fine and medical treatment of the expense to be incurred by the person injured. The contractor should first get clearance from the Panchayat and also now since the Village Road safety and traffic management committees are in place , there a need to see that these committees have to play a important role in the village and safety measures are enforced and seriously followed by the contractor or any Dept that carries out work in future in the village.
