This is with reference to the editorial "When refereeing calls cloud the true spirit of World Cup football - Goan Everyday - July 9, 2026." That was an insightful, informative editorial on the FIFA World Cup in progress and especially the recent match between Argentina & Egypt. It seems there have been some bad decisions which have changed the outcome of the games. However, with modern technology such as VAR in place one would have expected fair results. The editorial rightly states refereeing and the sport’s internal processes must remain independent of politics, commercial interests and public pressure. I also believe that football is a beautiful game and every game is decided on merit. It is sad to note however that controversies have dogged this beautiful game. In the game between Argentina & Egypt it seemed like Egypt was clearly the better side. The end of the game however showed a different picture.
