Fall in Covid cases must not make us complacent

Goa’s daily Covid-19 infections fell below the 200 mark on Saturday for the first time since December with the state registering 157 fresh cases of the infection. The positivity rate was 5.39% and there has been one death linked to the dreaded virus on Saturday. The overall recovery rate in the state has improved to 97.44 per cent. It seems the Covid-19 curve is flattening after the state witnessed a massive surge in the viral infection resulting in several deaths in the past one month. The fall in the number of daily Covid-19 positive cases comes as a welcome relief on the eve of the state assembly elections. This will obviously lead to an increase in the number of voters coming out in order to exercise their franchise today which happens to be polling day for Goa.  However people should not let their guard down. There could be another surge in the number of infections if people become complacent. Goa will also be celebrating Carnival this year with the Carnival float-parade being organized in four cities. Carnival celebrations attract a lot of tourists from abroad and from different states in the country. All pandemic related protocols need to be strictly followed and the citizens need to be fully vaccinated. We are still not over the hill as far as the dreaded virus is concerned.

It is a visible glimpse for those who always doubted the real motives  and intentions of turn coats, switching over  and defecting…
