It was shocking to read in the news that the Mamlatdar's office at Canacona caught fire and some records were also gutted in fire. There would be absolutely no way to retrieve these valuable records now. Many government offices in Goa including Mamlatdar's offices do not have an effective fire fighting system. These Mamlatdar's offices are so congested that in case of a fire, even staff and public inside would find it difficult to move outside. Incidentally, the Mamlatdar is an important part of disaster management scheme. Therefore it is required to immediately conduct fire safety audit of all Government offices in Goa and also ensure fire fighting equipment is available.
