The ongoing farmers' protests expose the chinks in the government's arsenal. Normally, farmers have enough wherewithal to supply their goods to an APMC (government wholesale market) where they get the least minimum support price (MSP) and this process has been going on for quite some time without any disruption. The government has now promulgated three new farm laws that directly deal with the supply chain. They want the farmers to do their own marketing and seek whatever price they want subject to what a customer is willing to pay. This sounds innocuous, but the fact remains that the farmers need the wherewithal to do their own marketing. If a farmer is faced with an Ambani or an Adani, it's more likely that he will have to back down to get a remunerative price for his produce. The ordinary farmers are afraid of disputes as they cannot approach courts for redressal of their grievances as the government has enacted crafty laws outwit them.
