Daytime temperatures have hit 44 degrees and often do not fall below 30 in the night in most of the States. Daily power outages driven by a surge in demand for electricity have resulted in blackouts for long hours.
And this climate is a core threat to human health. There are only a few areas in the country which saw normal or below normal temperatures for the season. Though the southern and north-eastern regions had summer rains, overall the country is experiencing a more torrid summer than in the past.
Warnings and alerts have been issued about heat strokes and there are advisories asking people to stay indoors. The central government has issued a number of dos and don’ts.
Hospitals have been told to stock essentials such as IV fluids, ORS, ice packs and cool drinking water. The number of heatwaves is directly in response to global warming.
People need to take care of themselves and use umbrellas, eyeshades, brimmed hats and sunscreen with an SPF of 30 to 50 to protect themselves from the harmful effects of UV rays.
