Now the fisheries minister eyes Rs 400 crore from the Centre as investment and he mad made a pitch for insurance cover to fishermen in Goa. Most businessmen protect their lives and properties by taking insurance cover and they pay the premium from their own pockets, then why only fishermen should be insured at the government’s cost? There is no logic as this will be an additional burden on the sincere taxpayers. The government will recover this money by imposing more taxes. The government in Goa will have to find out whether those in the fishing business declare their correct income and pay their taxes on time.
