Baba Ramdev said that Mother Teresa should not have been given the Bharath Ratna because she is a Christian and a foreigner. I don’t know if Ramdev is aware what is the criteria for giving Bharat Ratna. Hope he is aware that in the past Bharat Ratna has been awarded to non-Indians. During her stay in Kolkata, Mother Teresa cared for the old and the infirm. She lived in the ashram and slept on a small bed even without a mattress. Her room is still kept as it is. To say that she was involved in religious conversions is to negate the enormous humanitarian work she did since the day she landed in Kolkata. She never hankered for power or pelf. Her selfless service defied the boundaries of religion and embraced all humanity. Hence the mother was a living saint. She doesn’t need a certificate from power mongers who are only accumulating wealth.
